Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2016 – 2017 school year!  On the last day of school last year I sent home an announcement about our student achievement on our district testing.  Now, we have our results from our State assessment and we are very impressed with our students’ performance!  I am happy to share our school-wide results with you and you will get individual student results at your conferences in October.

 2016 WESD District Post-test data

  • Our students scored in 2nd place out of 32 schools on their growth on the English/Language Arts tests.  We missed 1st place by only 1%!
  • Our students scored in 7th place out of 32 schools on their growth on the Math tests.
  •  Our general education students scored in 1st place out of 32 schools on their growth on the English/Language Arts tests!
  • Our English language learners (ELLs) scored in 2nd place out of 32 schools on their growth on the English/Language Arts tests.  Again, only missing 1st place by 1%!
  • Our gifted students scored in 3rd place out of 32 schools on their growth on the Math tests.

2016 AzMERIT data

  • Ocotillo Elementary grew at a higher percentage than the district average in BOTH the State AzMERIT English/Language Arts tests and Math tests from 2015 to 2016.
  • Our growth percentage on the State AzMERIT English/Language Arts test is 6.25% and the district average growth is 2%, placing us in 3rd place out of 32 schools for growth in this area.
  •  Our growth percentage on the State AzMERIT Math tests is 5% and the district average growth is 3%, placing us in 10th place out of 32 schools for growth in this area.

Student Discipline Referrals

2013 = 1,075

2014 = 1,051

2015 = 330

2016 = 357

As you can see we have been working really hard to improve our student achievement and decrease the number of discipline incidents at our school.  We are looking forward to another GREAT school year!
